Walnut Creek Cleanup
April 11th, 12:30-3pm
Afterparty, 3-4pm

Register here by April 1st

  • What will I be doing?

The project will be held at the Walnut Creek Wetland Center in Raleigh, where Sound Rivers has one of our trash traps located. The trash trap is a passive litter-collecting device that floats on top of the water to collect trash flowing through the waterway. We will begin the cleanup by talking about the issues facing our waterways, specifically in the Raleigh area. We will then begin the cleanup by removing the trash from the trap, followed by moving along the creek to remove additional litter from the banks.

  • Where do I go?

Walnut Creek Wetland Center, 950 Peterson St, Raleigh, NC 27610

  • Where can I park?

There is an on-site parking lot at the wetland center.

  • What should I bring/wear?

hats, water, clothes that can get muddy/wet.

  • What will be provided by the host?

Waders, gloves, trash bags, trash grabbers, nets.

  • Any special considerations?

For those interested in getting into the creek for the cleanup, there is a small river bank you will need to climb up/down. For those not comfortable getting into the creek, there is also the option to clean up on land and help pass along supplies to those in the creek.

  • What if it rains?

This is a rain or shine event. In the case of inclement weather, the workday will resume the following day, Fri. April 12, 12:30-3pm.

  • Any more questions?

Contact your team representative for any questions leading up to the event.

Learn More About Sound Rivers

Sound Rivers’ mission is to monitor and protect the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico River watersheds, preserving the health and beauty of the river basins, and the health of the communities that rely on them.

NC League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV) connects and engages people to protect our natural environment and promote the well-being of our communities. They turn environmental values into NC priorities by engaging people in the democratic process, organizing in communities to connect environmental policies to people’s daily lives, cultivating environmental leaders, and advocating for policies at the state and local level that protect the health and quality of life for all North Carolinians, with an intentional focus on systematically excluded communities of color.

Engagement Opportunities: We host monthly creek clean outs, as well as many educational events throughout the year.
